Designing and drawing characters is one of my favourite creative processes. I love to try out poses and expressions with new characters to really get an idea of their personality and the way they're going to move and behave on-screen when animated. Often drawing the character in this early stage will give me a lot of ideas for fun things to try and include in the animation where I can. For me, strong, free lines are important when designing and drawing characters - I want to get across vivacity, movement and weight.
